Chicago Taco Authority has been in business at 4219 W. Irving Park Road for about 2 years. The theme is the CTA and the owner, Jose, spared no details in the decor. Check out this video on the interior courtesy of pro cameraman Chris:
Now as cool as the signage is – a taco place can only take you from station to station if the food holds up. And CTA’s tacos are more enticing than an open seat on a crowded rush hour train. I opted for 1 crunchy brisket taco, 1 shrimp taco and 1 Bloody Mary taco – that’s bacon-wrapped shrimp with Bloody Mary sauce, tomato-cucumber relish, chihuahua cheese & celery slaw.
The bacon was crispy, the brisket was flavorful. The shrimp taco was my favorite, with big shrimp – and you can tell they’re of the highest possibly quality. Excellent taco joint. Shanah B informed me about this place on an upcoming edition of Good in Chicago (dropping Friday). It’s all counter-service, then they bring it out to you. Jose took our order with patience, taking special care to ensure Shanah’s order satisfied her vegan diet. Chris got a fish taco with a side of rice & beans:
And get this, CTA has a self-serve salsa bar, so you’ll never be short on green:
I was in a picture-snapping mood, obviously – even capturing the classic Squirt enjoyed by our director Tony:
Outstanding post-work meal. I’ll hop on this taco train any day.
